Kurodake Climbing Report.

In Ireland snow rarely accumulates on mountains for more than five days and even then accumulations are small, only a few centimetres. Compared to Ireland's mountains Daisetsuzans conditions are severe but just as beautiful.
It has been my goal to climb Daisetsuzans Winter peaks since I arrived in Hokkaido. I was really that together with Mr. Otomo we could achieve this.
Despite a forecast for worsening weather, the day was clear and sunny. We started from the chair lift accompanied by snowboarders eager to to assess the snow condition. It was in deed deep, fine and powdery. We progressed through the tree line until we reached a clear slope just under the summit. Here I switched to crampons because of the steep gradient however Mr Otomo could continue in snowshoes.
The view from the summit revealed Daisetsuzans frozen interior. A strong wind blew making it difficult to stay and appreciate the view but I was glad to have climbed a Daisetsuzan peak at last. Happily we descended to the ropeway station quicker than expected.

アイルランドでは、雪が5日間以上山に積もることはめったにありませんが、それでも積雪は少なく、数センチメートルです。 アイルランドの山と比較して、大雪山の条件は厳しいが、同じくらい美しい。
北海道に着いてから、大雪山の冬の山頂に登ることが私の目標でした。 私は本当にＯ友さんと一緒にこれを達成できると思っていました。
天気が悪化すると予測されていたにも関わらず、その日は晴天でした。 雪の状態を評価したいスノーボーダーを伴ったチェアリフトから始めました。 それは、深く、細かく、粉状の行為でした。 頂上直下の明確な斜面に到達するまで、ツリーラインを進みました。 ここでは急勾配のためにアイゼンに切り替えましたが、Ｏ友さんはスノーシューで続けることができました。
山頂からの眺めは、大雪山の内部が凍結していることを明らかにした。 強い風が吹いて、滞在を止めて景色を眺めるのが難しくなりましたが、ようやく大雪山の頂上に登れたことを嬉しく思いました。 幸いなことに、私たちはまわりよりも早くロープウェイ駅に降りました。
